‍ Every moment,

our Brain and Autonomic nervous system

are assessing if the world is

Threatening or Safe

Depending on that assessment,

we will go into a:

SYMPATHETIC or PARASYMPATHETIC

mode of functioning

‍ Perceived DANGER

SYMPATHETIC activation

Sympathetic is mobilising, catabolic, inflammatory, increases blood sugar levels and blood pressure, creates more Oxidative stress

Perceived SAFETY

PARASYMPATHETIC activation

These are 2 very different Physiologies

The Parasympathetic is where repair and digestion happen there is less oxidative stress and inflammation can get resolved

The VAGUS NERVE is the brakes on the danger signalling.

When it is activated we can return to a mode where the body can start to focus on healing, repairing, resting, digesting food and fertility.

We are designed to be in parasympathetic most of the time and sympathetic only when we are “trying to get away from the Tiger”

But In our modern worlds where we are overstimulated, not moving enough, out of synch with nature, daylight and exposed to a myriad of toxicities and new materials it is more common than not to become stuck in the sympathetic mode.

To sumarize this, our bodies cannot keep up with the demands and constant adjustments that are required to maintain s state where Healing can occur.

Safety starts at a cellular level

Even at the level of the mitochondria, our energy factories, safety or danger create very different signalling and response pathways.

In the Sympathetic mode the Cell Danger response can get initiated. The Mitochondria will actually morph itself to deal with an attack and will start a sequence of signaling that is now focused on defending against the stressor, virus or pathogen. If the body gets stuck in the Sympathetic mode the response gets locked and cannot go through the 3 stages of resolution, leading to a myriad of symptoms and eventually disease states.

So before we can truly receive the benefits of any intervention or treatment we need to access and often rebalance our autonomic nervous system by retraining the Vagus Nerve.

-SAFE -HAPPY -HEALTHY -EASE

At ALIGN THE POINTS we create a comprehensive vagus protocol assessing your current and individualised needs before we embark on any health journey.

Looking at:

- HRV (heart rate Variability is a good indicator for Vagal tone)

-Allostatic Load (or how full your stress bucket is)

-Stress management techniques (Heart Math or others)

-Breathing techniques

-Sleep quality, quantity and architecture (to maximise vagal engagement)

-Vagal activation techniques

-Life style or habits that might be getting in the way of autonomic regulation

-Overall possible physical stressors that could be keeping you in Sympathetic mode

-Mental and Emotional states and outlooks that might also be part of the problem

Wearables can be integrated in the protocols if the patient already uses them.
